Hard Conversations for the American Church
Every week on Sunday until Oct 11, 2020 from 6:00p to 7:30p
Organizer: Misty Moss

DESCRIPTION: Covid-19. George Floyd. Contentious elections. The first half of 2020 has brought multiple shocks to our individual, church, and national lives. What do we value? What is the way forward?
SCF and Roots for Christian Growth aim to step into these questions to lead a conversation of pastors, theologians, and curious or confused followers of Christ to understand the gift and challenge of this moment. Why are people, especially younger generations, leaving churches? How should the American church respond in this time of political, social, and religious upheaval?
Join with Jason Hall (Lead Pastor, SCF), Lori Thomas (Director for Youth First), Chad Venters (PhD in New Testament), and Peter Altmann (PhD in Old Testament) in thoughtful discussions. Each week will focus on a separate topic: 1. Is the U.S. church dying? Why? 2. The church and political affiliation 3. The stony path into the unknown
The conversations will be structured into:

  • Presentations and responses by our panel on the topic
  • Guided small group discussions
  • Large group questions for the panel
